tonyv
Moving out of the sun, our conscience ghosts away. A thick quilt, black as voodoo, settles on structures great and small. Thousands of ground stars buzz to life. City at night. ______________________ The image that inspired this poem:Mexico City at Night Quote Here is a link to an index of my works on this site: tonyv's Member Archive topic

goldenlangur
Hello Tony, Reading the poem alone allows one to enjoy your fabulous imageries - particularly love the way you give the city a magical presence - "thick quilt, black as voodoo" is inspired. In keeping with this I also like how "conscience ghosts away" - a power beyond human seems to be at work to bring the city to life at night. The photo link is a bonus! goldenlangur Quote goldenlangur Even a single enemy is too many and a thousand friends too few - Bhutanese saying. tonyv
Thanks, Friends, for your kind replies to my poem. Alek, how did I know you would like those lines? Hmmm ... maybe because I like them, too! Victor, I know what you mean. It's frustrating to see the absurdities that are taking place in the political realm today. I have two Mexican restaurants that I frequent, and I'm hooked on the food! Golden, I thoroughly enjoy the exotic imagery that the reader encounters regularly in your verse, and I'm pleased that you have taken notice of the cosmic elements in this one! Mr. M, nice to see you around. Thank you for the kind comment! JoelJosol
Tony, I too like the line 'ghosts away' but am not sure with 'black as voodoo'. Quote "Words are not things, and yet they are not non-things either." - Ann Lauterbach
summayya
Ahh I remember this one tony "conscience ghosts away", "black voodoo" and grounds stars buzzing! Yes I love this one! Many thanks!
Tinker
Hi Tony, I liked the opening "our conscience ghosts away." Night does seem to physically descend on Mexico. "voodoo" doesn't seem to be a relative word however, it would be more appropriate in a poem about Haitti or New Orleans. They do have witches but they are in the rural areas but as far as I know, no voodoo. I love the stars buzzing... A small poem packed with lots of imagery, Nice ~~Tink Quote ~~ © ~~ Poems by Judi Van Gorder ~~ For permission to use this work you can write to Tinker1111@icloud.com
