arthritic knuckle
too big for gold wedding band
cherished ring enlarged

I know I'm now widowed and could get away without wearing it, but I feel naked without it. Besides, it is too pretty to just hide away in a safe.

A lovely sentiment, Judi, in every way.  And I agree: don't hide that exquisite thing in a safe!  That 'cute cowboy' of yours had extraordinary taste..

Thank you David.  I just got it back from the jeweler and he cleaned it up and it looked so pretty I had to share.  Actually, he could never have afforded this ring when we got married.  I wore a plain gold band and a simple engagement ring that he had set with a 1 karat old fashioned cut diamond his mother gave him.  At 25 years the band of the engagement ring had worn thru and we decided to use the gold and gems, have the diamond recut and a jeweler friend created this custom ring which was then blessed by the church.  I've only worn it for 34 years.

Feb 23, 2023  # 26   National Chili Day

Peppers simmer in sauce
thick with beef, beans, and onion.
Texas does it best.
                 ~~jvg

I make great chili and cornbread, having friends over to share tonight.  I never had Texas chili but I'm told nothing beats it and they don't put beans in their chili.  I love chili with beans and I like spicy and hot, but I hear Texans really crank up the heat.

Feb 25, 2023 #28  National Clam Chowder Day

  •

winds churn up the sea
grey mist permeates the dock
hot clam chowder served

On my way to the bay (Bodega Bay) for a steaming bowl of New England Clam Chowder and crusty sourdough bread with friends.  What better excuse for good food and better friendship, it's National Clam Chowder Day.  ♥️

keys tap out
words to record my days
I had a good month
                       ~~jvg
I began writing a haiku a day for the month of February inspired by National Haiku Month.  If you read through them as I wrote them, you kind of took a journey through February with me. Maybe this will jump-start a habit of writing.
