A bee

Recommended Posts

badger11

Her tiny hands so easily crushed the fresh orange,

the moon imploding, pips launched into space.

I sip a camomile tea and after netting off

the consequences

between supernova and nebula,

I come back to earthly things.

A list of ten. I hoover.

My little goddess has fingers daubed

with a sticky, primeval ooze.

Her mouth a supermassive black hole,

from the depths of which an evolutionary

muddy bellow.

The mud's a bar of melted fruit and nut.

I wash the breakfast dishes.

A bee

... amazed by the pink blossom

of the curtains, head butts the glass.

I empty the dregs of last night's

burgundy red, swallowing

the buzz.

A small god and an alien friend

come into view. They've made a racing track,

an attempted figure 8 and the commandment:

'second comes last and first comes top. My name's

Ayrton Senna, and that car's mine.'

I gulp a glass of tap water. My mind

map is a beehive memory frenzy.

I dry the dishes.

A spoon, a moon, a knife and plate.

The formula one crashes, always,

because all gods know the track should be a perfect O.

The doll's head nods

in a measured, adult way

that feels reassuringly extraterrestrial.

I offer a child-like/E.T smile

with a spoonful of honey.

I make beds, press a button

on the washing machine, heating system, remote control-

Pluto is drifting out

of orbit, the gravity chain

is a list of ten.

I like that. Such polarity between the grand and mundane. Neat. And this part, too:

I make beds, press a button

on the washing machine, heating system, remote control-

Pluto is drifting out

of orbit,

Just for me, the racing allusions were cryptic. I had to google Mr. Senna. The whole poem left me a little (emotionally) sad, like I was to empathize with the speaker but I don't know why: they seem to have a house, family, appliances.....

OH! Bee, butts, & buzz. Cool. :)

This is very good writing, Badge. There's too much good to list it all -- I'd have to quote the entire poem -- but I will point out that I absolutely love

I empty the dregs of last night's

burgundy red, swallowing

the buzz.

Fantastic use of buzz. I also like the part in which the bee head butts the glass.

The introduction of the cosmic into the mundane sets the tone. I think it makes the poem.

Thanks Tony. I believe writing is about writing so this was essentially completed in one sitting.

Hi Badge, This is really good, I loved the on going everyday activitys paired with the observations. It was a reminder to me that today I have to clean my house, not sit at the computer and read treasures like this. But I'm glad I did. Your writing has gotten so far beyond me that all I can do is applaud your work and think, I wish I could write like that.

Thanks Tink. I've actually dismantled this and used parts in another poem I submitted to an online mag, which has been accepted!

all the best
