The Roundabout is another invented form introduced to me by Dave Schnieder at Writing.com found in a blog at Poetry Asides where apparently a forms challenge is offered every Wednesday.  The verse form was created by Sara Diane Doyle in collaboration with one of her students, David Edwards.  The elements of the Roundabout are:

  1. stanzaic, a poem written in 4 quintains.
  2. metric, iambic L1 tetrameter, L2 trimeter, L3-L4 dimeter, and L5 trimeter.
  3. rhymed, turned on only 4 rhymes for the entire poem abccb bcddc cdaad dabba
  4. L2 of each stanza is repeated as L5 of the same stanza.

    Roundabout

Her student asked her how to write
    poetic form that's new
    start with a beat
    a rhythm neat
    poetic form that's new

And then create a room or two
    no more than four, complete
    number of lines
    within confines
    no more than five, complete

Now to marry rhyme so sweet
    the moving link aligns
    the sound not sight
    will make it right
    the moving link aligns

    Repeating lines we will assign
The verse will reach its height
    don't overdo
    just take my queue
the verse will reach its height
