Shelter

Recommended Posts

JoelJosol

I can feel the heat of the sun but where is the warmth of love?
I can hear the birds chirping but where is the sound of joy?
People all around wear their widest smiles but where is my happiness?

How can I stretch my lips to feign a smile when it is my mind that is stiff?
How can I be in a crowd, intermixing shadows, but feel so alone?
Why from all the mobile calls  I only get busy tones

when all I need is someone with their arms around me,
to shelter me from this loneliness?

Beautiful existential summary of sadness and loneliness I'm particularly taken with

Dr_con, thanks for the feedback. I am glad that the poem was successful to carry across its message.

Joel,  The lonilness is palpable. Each line a gem.

Strong writing, and distictly contemporary. I struggle to be such, hence admire those who can do it this well.

I agree with the others, Joel, in that this is very good and re the contemporary feel. I think the first line is my favorite. After all, without an atmosphere to temper its effect, sunlight is only … radiation.

Thank guys. December is such a merry season that loneliness would be such a contrast.

The long lines and raped questions somehow remind me of Sandburg AND Whitman, if that's possible. The anxiety is palpable.

Thanks dcmarti1. I have not read Sandburg. I will find the poet's works to educate myself.
