Bugs and birds feast
not to mention fat raccoons
Summer's gifts in my garden

First sip of autumn
Fresh apple juice from old trees
Arching limbs propped up

Oh now you are in my neck of the woods.  The apples are being pushed out by grapes but there are still a lot of orchards left. Apples not ready for harvest yet.  My Fuji is really producing this year, I can't wait to pick.  I have limbs dragging on the ground they are so heavy.

I took the liberty to add tanka lines to this one.

Whisky Jack flies low
intrepid thief that he is
Food will be stolen

Leopard cat is not a threat
to small and hungry Gray Jay

I don’t understand.
What is this thing called “haiku”?
Some new martial art?

How exciting you chose to join us Mordee/Dee.  A little quieter here but you will find some seriously good writing in Member Poetry and the Overflow.

I'm glad to be here, Tink.
