ALCOHOLIC

Recommended Posts

I hate calling myself this out loud

but I've done some major soul searching

and friends, poets, and neighbors....'I'm an alcoholic'

drunken_smilie.png

I like " ALKY " way better

it's much more resectable than say being.....

a cocaine addict

or a herion addict

or God help us, a sex addict

a professional gambler....whatever...

I dont see it as a problem either

of course, on occasions,

young, rough, people, at bars

sometimes want to beat me up....

they have that look in their eye

no one has really gone for it though....

driving a car can be slightly risky....

passing out on someone too quickly.....

then there's the money.....

trying to stay healthy.......sleepy.........work....

moderation, at times,

can pick up acceleration........

many good times

love that legal buzz

some people may prefer sking, jogging, mountian climbing,

vegitable eatting, traveling.......blah, blah....ect....

I do my own thing

with a happy street-wise finesse

Hi pawnshop.

You infuse humor and self deprecatory wit into this unflinching account of a painful issue.

You convey well the disbelief one has of the detrimental effects of alcohol and the way others perceive an alcoholic. This makes the narrative affective.

Many of us struggle with inner demons but your courage in writing about it must be applauded.

I was moved by this poem.

The pride of self-deception.

Hi Jonathan, Your poem flows with skill and humor. I have to admit, this is a subject I can't enjoy the humor in however. It made me wince as I read, like being stabbed, each line a little deeper thrust, because I have heard this line before from someone I loved. The owning up, yet the making light and comparative denial of the destructive nature of the beast to yourself as well as to all around you opens old wounds. My prayers are with you my friend.

This one was written with a solid look at myself.

Believe me, it may sound amusing to some of you....

but this was a quick candid look at myself.....
