Registration -- to join PMO ***UPDATED INSTRUCTIONS***   03/14/2017

Automatic registration has been disabled. If you would like to join the Poetry Magnum Opus online community, use the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of this page and follow these instructions: 1. Check your email (including your spam folder) in a timely fashion for a reply. 2. After you receive a reply, use the "Sign Up" link at the top right corner of the page to create your account. Do this fast. I've lost my patience with people who use the "Contact Us" link to express interest in joining and then don't bother to check their email for a reply and don't bother to join after registration has been enabled. The queue fills up fast with spammers, and I have to spend my time sifting through the rubbish to delete them. The window of opportunity for joining will be short. I will not have my time wasted. If you don't check your email and you don't bother registering promptly, you will find that registration has been disabled and your future requests to join may go ignored. /s/ Tony ___________________ [Registration will only be enabled for a short while from the time your message is received, so please check your email for a reply and register within 12 hours of using the "Contact Us" link. (Be sure to check your spam folder if you don't see a reply to your message.)]

      Blogs   05/01/2017

Blogs are now accessible to Guests. Guests may read and reply to blog entries. We'll see how this works out. If Guest participation becomes troublesome, I'll disable Guest access. Members are encouraged to make use of the PMO Members' Promotional Blog to promote their published works. Simply add your latest entry to the blog. Include relevant information (your name or screen name, poem title, periodical name, hyperlink to the site where published, etc). If you have a lot of them and feel you need your own blog, let me know, and I will try to accommodate you. Members are encouraged to continue also posting their promotional topics in the Promotions forum on the board itself which is better suited for archiving promotions.

When we are busy...

103 posts in this topic

Ok here it is the topic what I mean it is useful. Because we are like a family here and often so much worried when somebody is missing long time. Here we can say if we are busy with doing something and not be able for being on the board. So we can be a little bit informed what is going on with us.

Thank you.

I've been visiting here now and then just to read some poetry, but I haven't been very creative lately, so I've been kind of quiet. But I'm still around. Peace, Til Soverhappywinterbm9.jpg

Hi again!

Yes, the photo is me. I was really bundled up that morning -- the temperature was minus 26 degrees Fahrenheit. It's still very much winter here, but should start warming in a few days.

As far as photos go, I'm looking at yours. Now that's something!

Hi Til Sover,

Are you close to International Falls - the icebox of the nation?

Stay warm!

Hi Lake,

I am about 80 miles south of I-Falls, where 40-below zero was reported yesterday morning. Winter is really hanging on, here. This mornings temp read 24-below at my place and I heard one report of 32-below down in Zim/Saks country 40 miles south of here. These cold days could make an interesting poem for someone, but my brain is too frozen!

Incidently, "Land of Sky Blue Waters" was once the logo for Hamms brewing company. Their ad featured a lake in northern MN, but I can't recall which one right now. There are quite a few lakes around here.

Hoping to thaw, tilsover

Hi, I am not away but I am busy at the Connection right now. I am committing a couple of hours or more a day to cleaning up the site.

A word of explaination. We all know about the invasion of the spybots and Frank and Badger's valient efforts in cleaning up all of the offensive porn posts from the site. In order for the spammers to do their damage they had to register as members. They did this by the thousands. As of last Tuesday there were over 59300 members. This clogs up the system and slows down the index page and log on to the point of timing out. Only an administrator may delete or block a member. Until Tuesday only Gunnar who has moved on to other projects held that power.

Blogjamb contacted Gunnar and got him to down load software that slowed down the spammers considerably and he also asked that the power of administrator be shared with a few others so the deleting of bogus members could be done. I think Gunnar looked at the list of moderators and chose the last 3 on the list to be administrators. That was Frank Gibbard, Blogjamb and me.

A member can only be deleted one at a time. It takes me about an hour to delete 150 bogus members. So you can see this is a tedious and time consuming process. So until we have the Connection a little more under control, I will be spending a lot of my time working over there.

Hi Tinker,

Thank you for letting us know the progress over at the Connection. Those spammers are a real headache. Glad to know that some of you are granted the power to clean up the site. Hope you won't work overtime.

Best,

Lake

It is done, Gunnar gave us a password to a Administrator Tool that allowed us to finish off 54000 of those invaders in 2 days. I think seeing us putting hours and hours into the tedious manual delete made him feel guilty and he finally came through. The place still has invaders because it isn't a site that requires approval but they are minor nats that are just pesky and we can dump them quickly. The site is a 1000 times faster, you can actually log onto the Index page in less than a second. Before, my home computer would time out if I tried to go to the Index page. Amazing the difference. But now I have more time to come here. So I am back, much sooner than I thought I could be.

Congratulations, Tinker, to you and to our other members who worked hard to improve PC. I checked it out, and it was nice to see the index page come up instantly. And yes ... now you have more time to come here. icon_razz.gif Thank you for all you do!

I can only speak for myself, but I seem to be caught up in some listlessness, some inexplicable ennui. I read but cannot write. I listen to music -- that usually works -- but now does not.

The other night I was lonely and bored. Tried to write, but could not. I decided to try a change of scenery and went to my favorite cafe. Still, nothing. I had not planned it, but I ended up at the small bookstore across the street ... in the poetry section. icon_lol.gif Seamus Heaney's 2006 collection District and Circle caught my eye and went home with me.

I started to read and immediately became inspired, but I still haven't been able to write anything for days, this time albeit for additional psychological reasons: could I ever even write anything nearly as good as Heaney's verse?

I don't know the solution to my predicament. For me, consumption is not the answer. Some would say work is the answer, but I don't want to look there. Based on my own past observations, activity on the board(s) seems to come in spurts, even for me. The nice thing is that the board is here ... for our enjoyment. I will now make a topic on Seamus Heaney in Favorite Poets. icon_smile.gif

I love your poetry so keep your good style
