By registering and/or posting on this bulletin board, members agree to abide by the rules outlined in this topic and by the other rules found within the announcements inside each forum. Legacy Members acknowledge that they have read and understand the conditions specific to the LEGACY MEMBER class. All members acknowledge that they have read and understand the COPYRIGHT NOTICE AND DECLARATIONS topic, and that they are in complete agreement with it.

I. General Civility and Decorum

Members shall be civil to one another. Sometimes a member may start a friendly topic about another member. Topics like this are acceptable unless the member who is the subject of the topic objects in which case the topic will be removed. There is a difference between a generally harmless Happy Birthday topic that a member might start about another member and other personal topics that could offend the "target" of the topic. If a member is offended by a topic which someone starts about him, s/he should contact the site administration.

II. Profanity, Eroticism, Pornography

Although the site administration prefers that this site does not become deluged with poetry that contains profanity and eroticism, it nevertheless recognizes that these elements sometimes occur in art. Even so, there is an artistic difference between Yeats' "Leda and the Swan" and other written material generally considered pornographic in nature. For topics that contain profanity or eroticism, members should use the following content warning next to the title of the topic: [R]. If a topic contains even one word ordinarily considered profane, the warning should be used.

Poems or topics that contain extreme profanity, material that crosses the line from art to pornography (as determined by the administration in its sole discretion), or subjects that stretch the bounds of all decency will be deleted. For example, if a member posts a poem that glorifies pleasure derived from abusing a child, the poem will be deleted ... no matter how good the poem may be as a work of art. Members with questions about this should contact the site administration. Topics will not be deleted haphazardly and will be removed only upon careful consideration. The administration will provide clear reasons for deletion, should it be deemed necessary.

Members will refrain from using profanity in other members' topics which do not exhibit content warnings. Profanity used in topics that do not have content warnings may be edited or deleted. Pornographic images (as determined by site administration in its sole discretion) will be deleted.

III. Posting and Prohibitions

Posting is by members only. The rules announcements in each individual forum contain rules specific to those forums.

Advertisements and political endorsements of any kind are prohibited unless specifically approved in writing by the site administration. The site administration, in its sole discretion, will determine what constitutes advertisement and political endorsement.

Disseminating computer viruses, hacking, and posting of malicious code is prohibited. Any member who violates this rule will be banned.

Within the Poetry section, multiple posting of poems is allowed as follows:

Poems posted in Dedicated or Workshop may also be posted in either the Member Poetry or the Member Poetry (overflow) forum. Poems posted in Member Poetry or Member Poetry (overflow) may also be posted in Dedicated and Workshop. The same poem(s) may not be posted in both Member Poetry and Member Poetry (overflow).

IV. English Language

Poetry Magnum Opus is primarily an English language bulletin board. Topics, posts, and discussions (with the exception of those carried on using the private messaging feature) should be in English. Poems in languages other than English may be posted in the World Poetry section. The poster should strive to include an English translation of any such poem, but, in any case, ensuing and related discussions must be in English. Topics and posts that are not in accordance with this rule may be locked or deleted by the administration in its sole discretion.

V. FAIR USE NOTICE

Some site content may be copyrighted material, the use of which on this bulletin board may not have been specifically authorized by the copyright owner. Such material is made available on a non-profit basis for educational and discussion purposes only. The site administration believes this constitutes a 'fair use' of any such copyrighted material as provided for in 17 USC § 107. If a member wishes to use copyrighted material from this site for purposes of his own that go beyond 'fair use', s/he must obtain permission from the copyright owner. If the site administrators become aware that site content is in violation of an applicable law, it will modify or delete the content in order to bring the topic or post into compliance with the law.

VI. JURISDICTION AND VENUE

All visitors and users of this website agree that the relationship between them and the website's Root Administrator and/or owner will be governed by the laws of the State of Rhode Island, excluding its conflicts of law provisions, and thereby also agree to submit to the personal and the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located within Providence County, Rhode Island, to resolve any dispute or claim arising in matters pertaining and related to the use of this website. By continuing to use this website, visitors and users acknowledge that they are in complete agreement with the website's Guidelines.

VII. CHANGES TO THE RULES

Members agree to remain aware of rules modifications which may occur from time to time. Significant changes will be noted in a temporary announcement at the top of the site's forum listing. In addition to all other rights not expressly waived in this topic or elsewhere on the site, the site Root Admin group reserves the right to change and otherwise modify these and all other rules should it, in its sole discretion, deem it necessary or desirable to do so. A member's continued participation will constitute his agreement to be bound by such modifications.
