The Breccbairdne is oglachas, a casual imitation of dán díreach. The Breccbairdne requires that all end words are 2 syllables.

The elements of the Breccbairdne are:

  1. written in any number of quatrains.
  2. syllabic, L1 is 5 syllables and L2,L3,L4 are 6 syllables each.
  3. rhymed xaxa xbxb etc x being unrhymed.
  4. all end-words are 2 syllables each.
  5. written with cywddydd (harmony of sound) and dunadh (ending the poem with the same word, phrase or line with which the poem began).
