Invented Forms

Cherita (pronounced CHAIR-rita) is a short verse that tells a story. It was created by ai li, UK poet and artist. Cherita is a Malay word for story or tale. It was found at Larry Kimmel.Tripod.com

The defining features of the Cherita are:

  1. a hexastich, a 6 line narrative poem made up of 3 separate strophes. A single line, a couplet and a tercet.
  2. syllabic without specific syllables per line.
  3. unrhymed.
  4. a poem that can be written by 1, 2 or 3 poets.

    on a courtyard bench
    scruffy black stray
    invites a friendly hand

    bloody sore oozes gore
    stays the stroke
    evokes a hiss
