Poetry Magnum Opus

Because it is Poetry Month, I'm posting here an old poem in honor of an ancient poet who is said to the be the author of the Edda Measures, ancient Nordic books of poetry and "how to write poety" He has the best name ever.....

Skald

The ancient pages postulate a skald
who wrote his words with magic.
Of legends, gods and gold, he told
with tongue and tambour ringing.
His valiant verse, a varied tome,
the married meter uttered.
Of Snorri Snurluson, they sing, author. . .
of the Edda Measures.

Nice one Tink. The meter, assonance and alliterations alone of Nordic poetry are well worth more than just a cursory look for the aspiring modern poet.

Agree with Benjamin. Alliteration and assonance -and I think some consonance meTer and uTTered- would make this a joy to HEAR in some mead hall with a roaring fire.....as long as no one was TOO drunk. :)

I'd like to someday write a piece such as this.

Hi Benjamin and Marti, This was a fun one to write and some of old accentual rhythms pronounced by alliteration and assonance are really fun to create. Especially when you have a name like Snorri Snurluson to work with . Thank you both for commenting.
