#18 Poem a Day

Ball Player

The Dodgers first to integrate,

cross color lines with much debate.

A black boy with the temperament

to play through bigotted excrement

with talent, poise and tolerance

while white folk kept on hollerance.

Jackie Robinson, number 42

known to steal a base or two

made his point upon the field

with steel that would not yield

and a will they could not tame.

All for the love of the game.
