reflections

Benjamin

Recommended Posts

I watch him laughing running wild

and dangling upside down from rope

that carefree happy feral child

a pendulum of future hope

in glorious morning of a life

where eagerness and courage tend

to joyful days that have no end

still unaware of toil and strife

till innocence receives the kiss

of knowing-- from an oasis--

awakens the bewilderments

that riddle life long common sense

and reach me only in the sighs

of crooked time through which he flies

Geoff, great choice on meter for this sonnet which is a lovely expression of how I sometimes feel. I think back to how I thought and felt growing up, that sense of hopefulness when everything was new. Today I'm relieved that I'm not such a young person just starting out.
