Due Tomorrow

Deadlines hang over my head,
each day something new is bred,
bills and taxes seem to spread,
I seek fun to do instead.
Daily chores become best shed,
work documents read and shred.
Is there no end to this toil?
That's the coil, then I'd be dead.

Oh the joys of modern living. Although you do not mention the season, media and peer pressure, I feel they are all in there somewhere by allusion. For some reason my mind jumped to the profusion of traffic cones on English roadworks. They also have an inexplicable way of multiplying year on year, mile on mile, to blight the most innocuous of travellers. Benjamin.

O Tink, do you have to be so realistic? But it's a fact that an inordinate amount of time in our lives has to be spent doing maintenance-type things. These are the kinds of things we should be training monkeys to do ... except they'd probably rebel! I liked the clever rhyming scheme.

Drown your sorrows in drink, by all means, but the real sorrows can swim

Hi Benjamin, Thank for chiming in.... Luckily I live in a rural area and traffic is one stress I rarely deal with. ~~smile~~

Hi Aleks, Lyrical realism just comes naturally. I am glad you liked it.

Hi Brendan, I wish I could take credit for the "clever rhyme" but I wrote this an example poem for the Cyrch a chwta, an ancient Welsh meter. It is part of our Celtic roots.

Hi Tink,

Taxes, bills and death - the inevitables of life and how effectively you capture this.

A thought-provoking poem.
