Tibetan Verse

Cho-ga is academic ritual verse of the Tibetan and Bhutan Regions and the inspired "treasure-discoverers". (In the 9th century Buddhist leader, Guru Rinpoche had sacred texts and artifacts hidden or buried during a peasant revolution.  They are thought to be on the border of Tibet and Bhutan and over the centuries pilgrims have sought to visit the sacred sites and possibly find a treasure text and insight into the Buddhist faith.)  Verse in this form is chanted by devout Buddhists daily.

The elements of the Cho-ga are:

  1. syllabic, written in more than 6 syllable lines, usually trochaic.
  2. written in 4 lines.
  3. suited for philosophic and doctrinal subjects.
