Budget Day

Recommended Posts

The birds sing sweeter on this perfect day,

and nasty children now have friendly cries.

Two strangers were surprised by my "hellos,"

and next door's noisy dog has run away

at last. I watch the news with happy sighs

and muted sound as politicians crow;

sing upside-down and inside-out, their lines

to please the pope. While on the barbecue,

a sizzling steak awaits this happy self,

who now decants a bottle of red wine.

Today the whole world has a different hue,

for with the post came my clean bill of health.

Can really identify with this contextualising what really matters. On our Budget Day @ Westminster and swamped by media coverage health contingencies sweep all aside. Waiting assessments myself, how sweet the "clean bill of" is. Your poem conveys the personal esprit such news would inculcate, nice one Geoff.

Hey, G. Are congratulations in order? Nothing offers peace of mind like finding out that those chest pains are actually just hot air caused by the cooked onions and garlic, yes?

I like this, I feel the sense of relief that accompanies this kind of news and you've done a great job showing what really matters and what, in fact, might not so much. Gives us reason to continue our plans for another year.

Well enjoyed, sir, thanks.

Two strangers were surprised by my "hellos,"

and next door's noisy dog has run away

at last. I watch the news with happy sighs

and muted sound as politicians crow;

sing upside-down and inside-out, their lines

of back-to-front. While on the barbecue,

a sizzling steak awaits this happy self,

who now decants a bottle of red wine.

I use every excuse to celebrate, especially with a good red. Every six months they say my kidneys and liver are normal. Now that's a big deal if you like wine. Thanks for sharing your good day.

Thanks for looking in and commenting Frank, Tammi anf Franklin.

There's much merit in the words "Live a simple life and be happy" :icon_sunny: Regards Geoff.

I like the sarcastic and cold humor. Made me laugh. This poem was extremely concrete. Not a ton of direct feelings, although you communicated those with your imagery, as is the preferred way. Good line breaks as well, to pound in the point. Overall this was a well done piece.

Thanks Tony and Pdgb. I should have stressed earlier that the narrator here is not to be confused with myself, I just liked the idea. I do however, endorse any irreverence directed at politicians. :)
