These punctures on the head, blood, dried, masked his face,

was pierced by mockery and thousand insults weaved

like spikes in thorn branches, his crown for his head.

This skin, these lesions, sank death closer to the bones.

These bruises came from lies so wicked enveloped in fists

whose blows spared neither body nor limbs.

This back was disfigured, lacerated, and torn open

by sheep bones of hate. Each clawed itself into skin,

into flesh with every flagellum's whip.

These ribs, this open fissure, jabbed deep by a spear,

poured forth water of forgiveness, streaming

to cleanse an earth, blood-soaked.

His time of death-

3 pm, Friday.

*** Jesus died on Nisan 14, Year 33, after a full moon night. Tonight is Nisan 14, another full moon night. Jews start their new day during Bible times after sundown.

I will look at the moon tonight in a different light. Thank you for this. Paco

:-8) not a believer but this was presented well.

Pinhead

"Unbearable, isn't it? The suffering of strangers, the agony of friends.

There is a secret song at the center of the world, Joey, and its sound is like razors through flesh."

Joey

"I don't believe you."

Pinhead

"Oh come, you can hear its faint echo right now. I'm here to turn up the volume.

To press the stinking face of humanity into the dark blood of its own secret heart."

"There's a starving beast inside my chest
playing with me until he's bored
Then, slowly burying his tusks in my flesh
crawling his way out he rips open old wounds

When I reach for the knife placed on the bedside table
its blade reflects my determined face
to plant it in my chest
and carve a hole so deep it snaps my veins

Hollow me out, I want to feel empty"

"Sky turns to a deeper grey

the sun fades by the moon

hell's come from the distant hills

tortures dreams of the doomed

and they pray, yet they prey

and they pray, still they prey"

Hi Joel, This is a tough one. You certainly lay it out in graphic detail. Tomorrow being Good Friday, it was the appropriate read for me this afternoon. I like the way you introduce each stanza with the words This and These . It is a great meditation, thank you.

Thank you, guys, for taking time to read and appreciate it. I seldom write on religious subjects, not wanting to be preachy, or anything close. It does not impose on the reader any set of beliefs. I also tried not to associate the violence with any personality or identities just the violence. Some readers dislike violence. But unless it is presented to us straightforwardly in the comfort of our homes, we will never appreciate how much suffering the rest of our fellow humans are going through around the world because of it, whether in the name of someone else's god or ideology.

Very well presented Joel. Those were brutal times and the compassionate teachings of a remarkable man subsequently affected the way in which many of us live on this planet whether we believe or not. Benjamin

lol well, even if it is preachy that still doesn't mean one should get offended they're only an individuals set beliefs/philosophy's, it's wrong and pompous to impose the differences out of unbelief in anothers beliefs.(only how you follow those beliefs along the road of life does it then become a gray area such things)

Great poem, Joel. This was like a voyage, back in the time. This poem gives a lot, especially to the believers and followers of Jesus. Thank you so much for the poem. Happy Easter, or as we are used to say over here: Hristos Voskrese!

Thanks for the poem, Joel, for the somber account of events leading up to the Resurrection.
