douglas
Oh listen to you! Trying so hard to impress me with With your very drunken philosophies And just when I thought you were starting to make sense I realised that It was time to dispense With these benign social pleasantries In fact As much as I respect your right to an opinion I must confess feeling extreme duress As you began to express And claim verbal dominion Over me, more or less And I thought to myself It’s time he got over his hang-ups And over himself By no longer denying his passions And placing them on the shelf What’s the use of repressing one’s desires By putting out the fires Of what one feels? So don’t be a fool And ignore what comes so naturally to you Perhaps you’re a bore Precisely because you abhor The authentic personality that lies within And I can tell you that it’s no sin To live an honest life Rather than to lie and deny And break your own heart By savagely and cruelly ripping it apart It seems a huge shame to me That you've let your entire family Define who you are By telling you who you're meant to be So what I suggest Is a lot less self-pity And a nice big dose of mental agility Get out of the corner you find yourself in And celebrate your life Because it’s no sin To love someone even if Society makes it a joke (And anyway, Their impositions are like a cattle yoke So don’t listen to what they say) And leave all of your whining and doubts behind And instead of bashing yourself Learn to be kind Embrace who you are with full certainty And soon you’ll discover what it’s like To feel free! Tinker
Hi Douglas, Great advise and well said for anyone regardless of what fears they face. The world can't accept you if you can't accept you. You might want to look at L4 "starting to making sense"... I wonder if you meant to put "starting to make sense". Or is it my American English? I liked this piece. ~~Tink Quote ~~ © ~~ Poems by Judi Van Gorder ~~ For permission to use this work you can write to Tinker1111@icloud.com
tonyv
What struck me is that the speaker sees the big picture; he seems to be coming from a position of experience. He's ready to pass on what he has learned and reacts with compassion rather than indignation.
