Pigeons

Bliss is but a thought away.

The trick is to remove the thought-

Clark Heinrich

In front of the porn Theater

the homeless witch spreads

her magic, breadcrumbs call

her street friends out of Sky

False Illumination, of necessity

is the same thing as True

or as the Buddhists say

Form is Emptiness

and emptiness form

Is it true that when I

feel this way, Sentience

does too? Charlie's young

brother moves sideways

through the linear crowds

smoking and grinning madly

Red Mohawked musician holds

his guitar casually, carefully

A Mother, shoulders slumped

front facing baby in tow, grateful

for this burden. A strong wind blows

Pigeons descend, nodding their heads

as if to say, emphatically, "Yes."

Somehow gritty, somehow sublime, Dr. C:

... the homeless witch spreads

her magic, breadcrumbs call

her street friends out of Sky ...

... A strong wind blows

Pigeons descend, nodding their heads

as if to say, emphatically, 'Yes.'

I always liked pigeons.

A rumination which says more tween lines in the DC manner. Liked the locale the scene and the philosiphising and the reader (pigeon) or t'other way round cocks a quizzical head. Frank

Hi DC, For some reason this took me back to when I was in college, (1960) I went to San Francisco State but lived on the other side of the bay in El Cerrito. I used to take the muni but on the way home I often got off early and walked the last mile or two to the bus station to take me across the bay. I loved the walk, sometimes I would stop for a coffee and just people watch. Your "homeless witch" reminded me of a woman I used to see regularly, she once sat next to me at a coffee bar that was open to the street and ordered a half cup of coffee. I remember her filling the cup with cream. .... I paid for her cup of coffee. She didn't say a word to me, just drank her coffee and went on her way. Probably the first homeless person I ever encountered and she left an impression on me but I hadn't thought about her in years until reading your poem. Thank you.

Hi Dr Con,

Love the way you extend a moment of this encounter in the thoughts that come to you:

the Buddhists say

Form is Emptiness

and emptiness form

Is it true that when I

feel this way, Sentience

does too?

In quotidian terms the form of someone like the street dweller is ever filled with want because it is empty of the samsaric aspirations and paraphernalia. In a way the Buddhist sunyata or inherent emptiness of existence for someone like the homeless is a paradox.

Even if i got your intent wrong, I enjoyed reading this.

Thank you.

A moment captured and defined. One can experience the thoughts and actions of each character. Very nice snapshot. I see it in black and white except for the mohawked hair-it seems the only color as if that alone defines the scene.
