three days, three nights

rain and wind pummel the valley

your prayer flags drip

what need have we

to weep?

A simple and poignant picture, as if nature was weeping for you so that you could save your tears for another time.

lovely,

Lovely -

three days, three nights....... - perfect. Remineds me of the poetical spirit of Jacques Prévert.

and to the rain here these days :).

" Prayer flags " - I love that expression GL.

I look forward for more tanka of yours.

The rain has a mesmerizing effect, especially in a period of mourning. That unsettling feeling pervades this somber tanka.

We too have a very wet summer here and there was cyclone Aila in May.

You are always so encouraging about my tanka.

I'm glad that the image of the prayer flag works.

Hi Tony,

Thank you so much for a considered read of this tanka. I like how you describe the effect of the rain: mesmerizing to link with that disengaged sense that death engenders in the grieving.
