The Path to Ground State Zero

The Path to Ground State Zero

Deathless we play with poison

I've forgotten more

than most people

will ever learn

he mutters

I agree

but isn't that true for us all

the skull remembers being squeezed

before settling on a final shape

the heart yearns for its

former unbroken self

skin never itched

The first injury

neurons pruned

by Night & Day

scars create patterns

layer by layer grows me

and you and we

The Light is lost

hidden in hollow bones

bright red blood

filters of air and water

eclipsed by muscle & fat

an ever-shifting guard

hair & tooth & nail

Infinite paths of Shadow & Form

declaring

This is Me

This is You

This is We

until it Stops

and we remember

it was none of Us all along

Hi DC, As usual a poem that must be read a few time to absorb it all. Like your poem says " layer by layer grows on me".

"The heart yearns for its former unbroken self" is the line that rings most true. I will be back for another layer.

Dr. Con, the subjects and concepts you regularly explore in your verse are by no standard light or shallow. This is the case with the poems of my favorite poets. This one reminds me of John Masefield's THERE, ON THE DARKENED DEATHBED DIES THE BRAIN. Thanks for another stimulating read.

hi DC,

the title grabbed me. at first i thought it your poem might of been refering to the twin towers that tumbled down lol because of the title. ground zero can be where a bomb exploded or a fire happened there or a murder happened who knows what else lol. then i read the poem and thought you might be talking about a professor. than again you could just being talking about a person who is educated very well. then again the poem is very layered and multi-facetited.

i had to do allot of thinking on this one. it is well thought out poem, well constructed, and a eginma to what might be going on. you detailed this one in a way that there are hints at what you might be talking about. and the details are finely tuned not really given the reader many clues of what the narrator is talking about. very interesting write to a excellent poem. enjoyed the read. i loved it!

Dr.Con this is amazing piece. Wonderful dark poem. It has a power and direction. The poem is right for my taste. I loved this one.

This is very powerful:

Deathless we play with poison

I've forgotten more

than most people

will ever learn

and aslo:

The Light is lost

hidden in hollow bones

bright red blood

filters of air and water

I enjoyed so much.

Hi DC,

The unravelling of the human conceit and perception - from the higher strata of thoughts and aspiration down to the physical nitty-gritty of it:

bright red blood

filters of air and water

eclipsed by muscle & fat

an ever-shifting guard

hair & tooth & nail

As usual well thought out and expressed.

Thank you.
