Flow

if you make a choice

or a decision

and it rests heavily

upon your heart

let it go

always follow the fresh flow

of your soul

let the life water

of your energy

move without resistance

contemplate the waterfall

how its stream gushes

swiftly and effortlessly

toward its edge

along smooth rock

with liquid grace

years and years of cutting away

and carving

follow that course

it is soft and true and gentle

allowing a cascade of splendour and light

to manifest

if all water lived in fear

and doubt

it would remain stagnant and obscure

in slimy pools

never reaching the crashing sea

which throws diamonds of joy

in to the sky

To receive love, you have to give it...

Hi douglas,

Good avice. It's very spiritual. I find your recent three poems - Alone, Sitting Quietly and Flow - carry more or less the same train of thoughts, can be combined as a series of contemplation. I really enjoy it.

Many thanks.

This poem creates an extremely positive feeling ... but I'm still trying to figure out what it means. Maybe that doesn't matter. It's like certain kinds of New Age music.

I probably have a few of those kicking around, Douglas. This part encourages one to move forward:

if all water lived in fear

and doubt

it would remain stagnant and obscure

in slimy pools

never reaching the crashing sea

which throws diamonds of joy

in to the sky

... by assuaging doubts and fears. Thanks for the heartening read.

Hi douglas,

Another reflective poem. I love how you use water to symbolize the ebb and flow of life and experiences and how being in the moment and not dwelling on the past is the way forward. Both Hinduism and Buddhism use such analogies and one reads the same sense of reckoning and acceptance in your poem.

This is one of my favourite passages:

if all water lived in fear

and doubt

it would remain stagnant and obscure

in slimy pools

never reaching the crashing sea

which throws diamonds of joy

in to the sky

Douglas, I loved reading your poems. In this one the last stanza is awesome. Nice imagery, expressions, feelings, poetical sound, all of it.

Much enjoyed my friend.

hello everyone. thank you very much for your responses. as always, they are greatly appreciated.

thank you lake - yes there were all written within the same week with the same thoughts and feelings in my head.

thank you dedalus - as golden spotted this is a kind of poetic meditation - i embrace zen as a way of life - and so this reflects aspects of what i embrace - namely present living, letting go of unnecessary attatchments to emotions and the past (or future for that matter) as all we have is the now, and that now can be so beautiful if only we chose to see the goodness/light rather than focusing on the darkness/bad.

golden - thanks for your usual intuitive responses. i greatly appreciate your words and comments.

tony - i am so happy that this moved you in a postive way

alex - you are so sweet and kind - thanks for your feedback!
