Strolling Lovers

We strolled along through Sefton Park,

on a beautiful autumn morn.

Clear blue skies, cold crisp air,

beneath a golden sun.

We talked. we laughed, stared into eyes,

cuddled tight,to share our heat.

Brushed our lips with steamy breath,

those lips...tasting so sweet.

Surrounded by colours of the fall,

shades of Golden brown.

Vibrant colours burst into life,

leaves discarded on the ground.

As we lingered. arm in arm,

I felt happy with my life.

Knowing I'd found my one true love,

my friend, my lover, my wife.

The imagery in the first three verses reminds me a lot of the Joan Baez classic "Diamonds and Rust." The last verse makes it personal and heartwarming.

Hi Tony

I will have to look this up, I don't know of any poets, as I have never read a poetry book before...Didn't do it where I am from if you wanted to keep your teeth LOL...Dave

Well, if you listened to "Diamonds and Rust," you would probably be okay.:)) It's actually an old folk song. The imagery in it is kind of "autumnal," yet a bit more bleak than your poem:

Now I see you standing

With brown leaves falling around

And snow in your hair

Now you're smiling out the window

Of that crummy hotel

Over Washington Square

Our breath comes out white clouds

Mingles and hangs in the air

Speaking strictly for me

We both could have died then and there

(excerpt)

Thanks, again, for capturing the season.
