A Thousand Words for Rain: For Gwyllm

In our dreams it still just rains

he says but when I lay embraced

by the end the ancestors whisper

nimbus regen lietus nelis yu Voices

pouring through the paper sheet

of our lives the impact of single

drops

a wedding a funeral a divorce a birth

blur the text it becomes harder to read

the pictograms to be complacent and clear

of the assumed understanding the ideogram

loses its context becomes a Rorschach

transcending language pretending

to be a soul an illusive myth

dying in the storm holes

punched through

a precious

thought a poem a love letter a contract a summons

the self is tattered and pulped back to the wisdom

of trees standing before the onslaught for years

and for moments not thinking what is that word

or the next nine-hundred-and-ninty-nine but

I bend and I stand and I provide shelter

and someday I will break and start

the whole process again and again

a constellation of learned values and shared assumption

dotting the infinite Mystery of a face turned up and pointing

Wet and not knowing it Dry and not caring Absolute and yet vague

without naming or labeling the infinite suchness of this very process

shakes our cosmos before it even began a search for these two-hundred-

and-twenty-three words for rain.

Wisdom and self-realization sprinkle like rain in this intense work. The tree metaphor is superb:

the self is tattered and pulped back to the wisdom

of trees standing before the onslaught for years

and for moments not thinking what is that word

or the next nine-hundred-and-ninty-nine but

I bend and I stand and I provide shelter

and someday I will break and start

the whole process again and again

And just like sporadic occurrences of rain, life's milestones --

a wedding a funeral a divorce a birth ...

a precious

thought a poem a love letter a contract a summons ...

-- are static throughout the ages.

Thanks Tony and Ded!

Promise? Hmmm, maybe and like so many of my transpersonal oaths I will endeavor to fulfill it despite never having seen the form or function;-)

Hopefully will have this for two voices posted on the reading section soon...

Much appreciation Guys!

Hi Dr. Con,

A pervading sense of going back to the beginning - searching in this haunting write.

I too love the metaphor of the tree and how you show the way it is intertwined with all human endeavors - successful, fitful or yet to achieve:

... thought a poem a love letter a contract a summons

the self is tattered and pulped back to the wisdom

of trees standing before the onslaught for years

and for moments not thinking what is that word

or the next nine-hundred-and-ninty-nine ...

Thank you.
