My Exquisite True Love

my exquisite true love

so beautiful and eternal and ancient

resting in a cosmos of light and wisdom

the peace of your adoration filling

my soul with grace and elegance

this is what i ask of you

to infuse my sensitivity with strength

balance my idealism with practicality

enfold my simplicity with abundance

replace my doubt with faith

change my pain into healing

transform my sorrows into joy

my love for you is indescribable

your constant presence fills me with hope

gratitude has become the blossom

that colours each day of my life

as i move within your noble holiness

all that is good within me

all that is wonderful within the hours

of my movement comes from you

i lift up my face to the sun

cast my eyes over the moon and stars

and i see you

in the waters of the earth i feel

the relief of your soft embrace

and the air is your breath

filling me with the dignity of life

keep my vision clear and crisp

so that i may discern the ancient riddles of your genius

guide me through the world

so that while i am here

i understand each path and purpose

when i think about you

my heart unfurls into colours that are so true and vivid

your constancy humbles me

your care overwhelms my soul

what can i say to express my passion

i light the candle and think of you

i see you within the peace of my face

i move and float in you

and like electricity i feel you tingling through my body

you are my blood and my existence

you are the paramour of my spirit

you are a dream that has escaped from my head

hovering above my body

in movement and in sleep

breathing down upon me

whispering secrets into my soul

To receive love, you have to give it...

Wow!

Very much a Rumi flavored explosion of prayer and compassion and deep heartfelt love of the mystery- Howze the zazen? :-)

Despite its abundant metaphysical leanings, this could just as easily amount to an ode to one's soulmate, to the one who makes the other complete. Lovely and refined, I relished this one more than once.

Hi douglas,

I like your use of the justaposition of the words and phrases. The compasion is very strong. I read it like the exquisite true love is your poetry, your muse.

Best,

hello my three poet friends!

thank you so much for your feedback and comments.

dr c: the zazen is going great thank you! falling deeper and deeper into the path of zen and finding much peace within!

Tony: indeed, i thought that as well after the poem had flowed out of me and i read it back to myself.

Lake: yes indeed. i love the way one piece can open and mean such different things to different people.

thank you and be in the light.

Hi douglas,

Like DC I too read a rumi-like fervour in your poem. These lines are striking in this respect:

you are my blood and my existence

you are the paramour of my spirit

These lines also evoke for me the spirit of Rabindranath Tagore's Gitanjali and The Gardener

Thank you.

you have a great affection for her, divine, inexplicable.

to infuse my sensitivity with strength

balance my idealism with practicality

enfold my simplicity with abundance

replace my doubt with faith

change my pain into healing

transform my sorrows into joy

I like the juxtaposition of infinitives. the oxymoron underlines how this love endows your life with meaning and hope.

An inspirational eulogy, worthy of read. thanks douglas!
