A Fool's Game

Here I am

standing alone

in the pouring rain.

Yesterday has come

and passed.

What will

tomorrow bring

my way.

Sometimes love is hard.

You just have to

grin and bare.

Yes it is a

fool's game.

A chilld plays

after dark.

When it is

thundering

and lightning out.

Sometimes we dream

and it fades

into the sunlight.

Sometimes we hear the music

playing a song

we hold dearto us.

I wish life

could be more

simple than

lighting a match.

When all you do

is tear us apart.

You have burned down

the bridges that unite us.

What we once held

so sacred and dear.

Is now in flames

burning down

like the house

we used to share.

A photograph

a memory

we hold dear.

Nothing is left

in the cold

pouring rain.

What if tomorrow never

came our way

Yes it is memories

that we hold dare.

It is a fool's game

Nothing but a child playing

I look in the mirror

and see all the tears.

Where have all the years

gone by when we

used to laugh and play.

Now we are old and grey.

Playing in the rain

Nothing but a fool's game.

Yes dreams are nice

but they do fade

into the night.

Victor, I enjoyed the continuum, how you made your way from the literal:

A chilld plays

after dark.

When it is

thundering

and lightning out.

to the metaphorical:

Now we are old and grey.

Playing in the rain

Nothing but a fool's game.

Yes dreams are nice

but they do fade

into the night.

"A Fool's Game" it is. Well done!

Hi Victor,

I like the subtle rhyming and lyrical cadence of this when I read it aloud, which I am wont to do with just about every poem I encounter. :) Love poems in particular are of great fascination to me... and I really enjoyed your metaphors. Thank you.

Metaphorical and meaningful poem. Emotions are not missing in none of your poems. Always heartfelt.

Thank you for this softness of poetry.
