The Torch

Carry the torch in the ancient way,

Symbol of a sacred and eternal fire;

From Olympus it has come today,

A token of human spirit to inspire,

A bright gleam of fair endeavour

To unite in sport and never sever.

Can they see its light in old Tibet,

Or doubt it brings any freedom yet?

Hello Frank,

This poem touches a chord given the recent events surrounding the relaying of the Olympic Torch around the global Olympic cities to Beijing. Your idea that we should uphold the original motif of the Torch as a symbol of freedom echoes many Tibetans' desperate belief that with increasing danger of their identity and country being wiped out by China, perhaps Tibet's voice should be heard.

You're right Frank sports should unite people across the globe but with a mighty power holding the baton, such hopes are unlikely to be fulfilled.

Thank you for a poem which makes us stop and think.

And thank you very much Golden for responding and all you said about the delicate situation and the deprivations of the indigenous Tibetan peoples. Frank

Nice and touching piece Frank. This should touch all planet, because the freedom is the one what should be light in every country.

And there is just symbols what we are using as a freedom, but actually there is no freedom as it should be.

The dealing with all powers make the people furious and angry.

Well written poem and nice to hear your voice here.
