Blue and White Plate

A simple blue and white oval plate

Is symbolic to me of life and fate,

Once gathered round it on festive days,

A family of seven reflected in its glaze.

Four of our number have sadly gone,

Our heirloom unbroken still carries on.

Modest inheritance cheap crockery piece,

Its true value in heritage shall not decrease;

Receptacle of sentiment a lifetime's worth,

Only earthenware but to me worth the Earth.

It rests at present now in the highest space

In proper place upon the same old dresser,

Until it is handed down once more to grace

The day when those of us left can bless her.

Hello Frank,

So much imbued in this "simple blue and white oval plate". Your convey effectively the depth of feelings and memories that this family "heirloom" evokes for you and your dear ones:

A link through time and laden with the warmth, pride and affection of generations.

A lovely verse you've posted here.
