I had a dream

Of empty silos

Hatches akimbo

Vacant tubes

Birds nesting

Grassing over

Ploughshares

For missiles

Back to earth

War machines

Of America Idle

Hello Frank,

Your poem is like a collage which evokes many images and ideas. I wondered if there is an allusion to Martin Luther King's speech "I have a Dream"? Here, you have juxtaposed images of the pastoral idyll with those of war and destruction. A note of irony in the final line "American idle".

Eerie dream, Frank, with the silos being "empty" of grain ... and everything else. I like your use of the word akimbo.

The bird and grassed over plougshare imagery sets the tone to one of desolation in this scene devoid of human life. The "American Idle" ironical reference augments it: perhaps the people are glued to their television sets.
