Poetry Magnum Opus

the prisoner

Recommended Posts

my fusion of thought begins--

a fading marble peach--

and clouds

resembling small girls tutus

curtsey above dark hills

separating a miasma

of brandy and apricot skies

from stalls of once green

leas and bridleways

where pointed shadows

creep from dormant trees

to quell the fading light

and pink and lilac ribbons

are consumed by gloom

that wears the face

of a Tasmanian devil

and gown of a legal carnivore--

and I play my game of hoop-la

with quoits of words

that never reach

the down-turned hooks

of apathetic ears

where no living thing

dies more than once

Fascinating. A joy to slide through you images- ever crystallizing, ever tantalizing and resolving at last in the final lines into a damn good poem;-)

"Growing old is a bit like knowing you are to be hanged in the morning. It concentrates the mind wonderfully. You learn to discard the things that don't count and treasure the things that do.”

Geoff, I read this as though seeing so many colorful images, like living with a favorite painting or watching a dawn or dusk sky, then being startled by an intruder. My only complaint is that your works make my tired brain work so hard even as though the lines flow like a valley rill. Thanks for this one.

It's one I put on the back burner to simmer for a while until it evolved. Just hoped it hadn't burnt or dried out. G.

The poem is "just right." I love the vivid pictures that flow from beginning to end. Each verse has something appealing.

I also like the poem's layout. It's visually pleasing.
