Chief From Beyond

Now you treat my peoples with respect,

We I have since passing learned are the

Indigenous original citizens of our land.

You treated with disdain as if to neglect

These tribes, in other words we nations,

Were fellow human people of mothers

Given happy birth not crawling creatures

Of the sand or from the lowest dry crack

In desert earth. Like ants the white invader

Swept us aside to inhospitable barren parts,

Broke our spirits and our hearts and parted

Hair from proud heads. Spurred the chiefs

To suicide. I myself took in Nature’s balm

So pale liars could do me no further harm.

Woe resounds in unhappy hunting grounds.
