One Drink to Many

I hold the bottle close to my lips

vomiting on the floor.

I fall flat on my face

dreaming away of times past

and the way it used to be.

Baby, you left me high and dry

but that was years ago.

I felt the sting of divorce.

It feels like you have left the world.

You were so cold,

you buried me in your heart,

telling your daughter

I was dead, gone, and buried.

I remember taking you to a hang out joint

you got drunk drinking one strawberry drink.

Oh how that night you let all ambitions go.

That was our first date.

On our second date I cooked a dinner for you.

I made you so aroused you made love to me

it lasted an hour and forty-five minutes.

These memories that haunt me so

is why I use the bottle of Whiskey

as my devoted friend.

You see the tears role down my eyes

as I pass out into a bliss

dreaming of you is the only thing I can do.

Many years ago we used to be in love

but like a match burns out, so did our love

for one another.

What really went wrong?

So I turn to the bottle of Whiskey

and take one drink to many.

This might have been indicative of a problem, Victor --

i remember taking you to a hang out joint

you got drunk drinking one strawberry drink.

oh how that night you let all ambitions go.

that was our first date

... but the relationship should have been rock solid by this point:

on our second date i cooked a dinner for you.

i made you so aroused you made love to me

it lasted a hour and forty-five minutes.

And I can't say from experience whether whiskey works, but I can say that writing poetry assists the healing process.

I enjoy your direct style and subject matter. Thank for always sharing!

thanks for commenting tony. i don't think whiskey really helped. i at the time was drowning my sorrows with alcohol. i drank vodka most of the time but thought that whiskey made the poem flow better. vodka hurt my kidneys when i drank a quart or more of it.i resorted to drinking a couple of glasses of wine slowly over the course of the evening. that left me with n hangovers. i never drank more then four glasses of wine at wine sitting. i used to eat cheese and drink wine instead of eating lunch or dinner. i would cook two four ounce hamburger paties and eat them with seasoning and n buns. then at night i would watch the Atlanta braves and drink a couple glasses of wine and eat cheese blocks while sipping the wine. sometimes i would drink all 4 glasses at one time. i would pass out from alcohol poisoning. i would wake up several hours latter feeling refreshed. i would eat oatmeal about three servings of the oatmeal plai with maple syrup and it felt good with stomach full of acids from getting drunk the night before. ii don't consider myself an alcoholic. i haven't had a drink since mid December 2005.

anyway you picked out the lines that highlighted our 3 and half year relationship. we were married two and a half years. a half year we were separated.

Ah how directly style and I understand so good this part:

you were so cold, you buried me

in your heart. and told your daughter

i was dead, gone, and buried.

Interesting written Victor, so open poem. This have melancholic sound my friend, as you wrote then, when all of this happened.

And sure that doesn't make you an alcoholic , but definitely not so good. I know this story about your marriage and it can be seen how deep touched you that.

thank you for sharing my friend
