Poetry Magnum Opus

This is a love poem

Trying to birth itself along a path poured over

with rain water on a late winter night. There is light

from a lamp post reflecting from a puddle, an opening,

distracting my reflection of you.

The thoughts shivered in the breeze, as it rushes in

to seek shelter in words, recalling, linking memories

from a past, warm with embrace and kisses. Upcoming

are sub-zero nights. Be here to share my shivering.

This poem has reached its highest point after coming

down the Whistler's snowy peaks. I confess my affection

is as beautiful as scenic mountains white with snow in the sun.

I am no Moses but you make my face shine.

**** I wrote this piece/draft to celebrate, in a couple of days, a marriage of 28 years tapping my Canadian and US travels for inspiration. It is another anniversary where we are not together due to work travel.

Loved these, they are ab-fab:

Be here to share my shivering.

I am no Moses but my face does shine because of you.

Especially the Moses part, because perhaps each of you are the other's deliverance? Nice.

A beautiful tribute and I'm sorry to hear you will not be able to travel with your partner. Enjoyed the clever metaphors and images and am sure she'll appreciate them too!

All the best Joel to you and yours!

Thanks for the read, dcmarti and Juris.

My trip in Vancouver and the cold weather provided the inspiration for me in time for our anniversary (Feb 15).

Despite the "shivering" this poem has a warmth of language about it and the last line adds a feel of good humour to this most human tribute. B.

A most lovely anniversary gift, Joel. Every line is packed with feeling and meaning. I love the North American winter environment -- really you've conveyed that so well -- and the title is just right.

Thanks Benjamin and Tony. Yes, I put in "shivering" as a contrast in word and tone :-) Vancouver and the places around it is indeed beautiful, Tony.

Hey Joel love some of the very original lines in this piece that speak Joel all the way. By the way it has been awhile since we last conversed. I hope all is well with you? I heard about that mega typhoon that hit the Philippines a few months ago, so you must be feeling weird to be having all this cold weather experience in your travels. I really missed reading your works and wish you a happy New Year my friend.

This line above was my favorite part in the piece.

Thank you for sharing Joel. Enjoyed.....

Hi Larsen,

Thanks for the read. It is also my favorite those parts you cited.

Actually, I was able to leave the place just in time before the typhoon came with the last plane out. The cold in Vancouver is a unique experience. I have never been in a sub-zero Celsius weather. I don't write as much anymore because of the demands of work but that typhoon and my anniversary compelled me to write :-)

I so love this poem. It is gentle, powerful, present and romantic.

I particularly adore the last line.

To receive love, you have to give it...
