If you read this poem

to find words

to burn in your mental furnace,

to extract from it precious lines,

and to dismiss the rest as dross,

to be removed,

dumped in some trash bin,

I tell you, in the end,

this is what you will find-

"Words are not things, and yet they are not non-things either." - Ann Lauterbach

I agree with Lake. This poem is quite clever. It seems to address the very nature of creativity, how one might be prompted to imitate, to emulate, or even to plagiarize. In the end, it leaves nothing for another artist to "extract," and the poem remains standing, in its own right, an original creation.

I dropped the last line to create a Mobius strip-like effect :-)

it's a poem with secret codes that made a program to input!

i think the compiler for the output would make the perfect one due to this effort!

As I said elsewhere Joel already I thought this witty as Lake said from the title to the end. I preferred the original finish "period." Frank

Ah Joel very improved poem. I like a lot what is told in this poem. Very well written and very good idea for a poem.

I am happy to read something like this Joel. Thank you for sharing and give us pleasure to read.

Hi JoelJosol,

Succinct and thought-provoking - there is some irony too - the 'furnace' of imagination and creativity cannot 'burn' in a vacuum and yet one pays a price for this exchange. You articulate this dilemma very well.
