There's some...

Benjamin

There's some who'd sell their mothers

For a villa in the sun.

Who'd lie and cheat on others

Then smile when it was done.

A skull and crossbones was their flag

In cruel days gone by:

They'd pillage, steal, deceive and brag..

When caught, we'd hang 'em.. High!

But decency's a business suit

And grog's become champagne.

The world a softer place to loot

And banks: "The Spanish Main"

For 'hi-tec' alter-ego spooks

Of Tudor 'Privateers',

Protected.. Rarely named as crooks

And honoured, with their shares.

Yet filtered through the ragged hole

of an expenses claim,

Descends a ghoul who'd sell his soul

To boast an honest name.

LOVE it:

But decency's a business suit

And grog's become champagne.

The world a softer place to loot

And banks: "The Spanish Main"

Jean Lafitte? Bernie Madoff? est la différence?

The first stanza is the cracker. The rest follows along but appears,to be limp, as if just tacked on.

Drown your sorrows in drink, by all means, but the real sorrows can swim

Very few things touch me these days, but a lovely summers day, which included: "These are the days of our lives" by Freddie Mercury, and a reading of Mitch Cullin's book, "Mr.Holmes" succeeded today. And I felt totally alive this evening after a stimulating two hours, conversing in a bar with a total stranger, who thanked me profusely for my company. I may even start liking people again.
