One Way Street

The movement has gone way beyond

the one small step for man. Even tried

to step back twice, to move this forward.

'That's all folks!' blurted out now

would be like premature ejaculation.

Can you hold back for one more minute

and let me finish first? But these drivers

are like cabbies. When you delay, you pay.

When the service is delayed,

you can try getting discounts 'til elections come.

But on the hand, the end may be nigh

with priests and merchants accelerating

the turn on the bend. You know it yourself

when you catch sight of a policeman

flagging you down from the other end.

You entered a one way street, man.

I'm not sure I'm getting this, but it reads like the expiration of something so efficient that it accelerates its own demise.

Everyone must have, at some point, experienced the feeling of being busted. icon_pale.gif You capture it well.

The gist is the feeling of being in a spot where you wish you weren't.

Hello JoelJosol,

Your poem could be a metaphor for life itself - every which way one goes, there's something/someone who thwarts our progress - although mostly it is the inner editor/harpy which hinders oneself - I read your use of multiple voices as this kind of inner debate. But you've also got some echoes of biblical references -

priests and merchants

evoking for me the incident of Jesus chasing out the money changers from the temple.

And perhaps also a sense of the iniquities of the political system too.

Enjoyed mulling over the possibilities always with the chance that I could have got your intention wrong.

GL, you are right. It has multiple voices. The poem itself a metaphor of life, institutions, and change.

Aleksandra

Very hard and multi meaning poem. This poem is praiseworthy.

Joel I love the way how you expressed this poem. Mixed imageries and expressions gives to the poem a long views.

The poem has wonderful beginning and exactly that involved me into deepness of this poem

Thank you for sharing Joel.
