The Dreamer and the Dreamed Case # 1

From El or Al we derive infinity and this:

This Millenia

This Century

This Year

This Week

This Day

This Moment

And from this hiss

Comes me in Bible School

A pastor drones on

Tribal ethics Tribal Morals Tribalism

The origin of identity politics

The exploit used by propagandists

To separate divide and Brand

Coke and Pepsi may have forgotten

Who the philistine's were

But their struggle

Has been co-opted

Planted so deep

We don’t even blink

When vendors

Have gang wars over flavored

Fructose and of course

I think about how we erase history

How in The Baroque theological

Debates would be settled by hooligans

Chosen by their alliance to particular

Random manifestations of power and wealth

Who would rumble in arenas constructed

To prove biblical points discussed in

Foreign languages whose winners

Would decide the fate of generations

Without understanding a single word

The study group has grown silent

I’ve read the Testaments understood Their

Essence and am converting the Holy Book

Into a pink cheese with salted sacramental

Water

The self-anointed Chieftain

Stares declaring:

At least we will have something

To eat for dinner!

The problem isn’t history

Or its lack

Rather it appears as this:

What you have for dinner

Dines on you.

A multi-faceted work of quality, eliciting a few wry smiles, for it co-coincided with something I read recently which quoted a line from Ambrose Bierce: that “ History is an account, mostly false, of events, mostly unimportant, which are brought about by rulers, mostly knaves, and soldiers, mostly fools.” Skilfully done and much enjoyed :-)

Does my unorthodox heart good:

converting the Holy Book

Into a pink cheese with salted sacramental

Water

Like that Benjamin character, enjoyed! ;)

Hi doc, I resonate with more of this than you might suppose. I admire the sharp ironies that recur in the piece. I may make a different distinction between which part is baby, which bathwater, but I like the push back on enthroned (and enforced!) orthodoxy and its evolving "flavors", the inflamed participation by the manipulated ignorant.

Thanks (I think),

- Dave

Hi DC, This flow of this poem is so smooth, like hot maple syrup poured over butter on pancakes, melting and moving, streaks of butter pooling in the syrup. The whole process came to a surprising (wholly because it was pink) yet logical end. The skill level of writing on this forum keeps excelling and is intimidating. Thanks for sharing your work here.

So, it all comes down to facebook and food porn? Juris, tell us how you really feel!

I agree with the others, this is very well crafted; the perspective is sobering, and the analysis is undeniable. The speaker is shaking his head. The reader sits mute with the study group and is also shaking his head: he gets it, too. Though I suspect that the speaker, the listeners, and the reader do understand the difference between religion and spirituality. After all, they are not the descendants of powerful ancient bloodlines nor the beneficiaries of the descendants' corporate shells.
