Stepping Up

I've always cringed when hearing the C word.

It conjured long-ago images of my dying Dad,
straining to breathe, trying so hard to be heard.

Since my diagnosis, it just makes me mad,
the cure is long with needles and stitches.

Again I wait word from another damn test
to weigh whether or not to poison the bitches.

Taking another step toward shaking the pest.

I like the orderliness in this poem, Judi. To me, its appearance is that of two concise stanzas. There's an appropriate starkness, a clinical bleakness that's sobering. Even so, the last line has an optimistic note.

Thanks Tony,   The form is new to me and fit the subject.  3 in 1 stanzas, the space slows it down and gives it a thoughtful cadence.   Oooh that line needs to be in my description in reference section, I'm going to edit.

Yep I have no reason not to be optimistic.  So far so good and I'm on a mission.

I've always cringed when hearing the C word.

Me too. The starkness is characteristic honesty and strength. Compelling write.

take care
