I just remarked to Joel that his New Year's poem left me with a familiar "glass half empty" feeling. Seems to be a trend ...

This one is short but cogent. The repetition is effective.

Frank, how true what you so briefly expressed.

Hello Frank,

Can't really say, 'Cheer up old chap!' as news of Gaza bombing, the political stalemate in Africa, the economic downturn mark the start of the year.

But thank you for this reflective poem, which certainly gives us cause to pause as we raise the glass to a new calendar year and hope we will work towards some resolution.
