The Moment in the Middle

Recommended Posts

it is the pause

suspended between weightlessness and gravity

where time stands still for infinity

and then disappears completely

it is that space

through which darkness and light

flow

simultaneously

it is the turning point

where form meets formlessness

where water floats

and secrets are revealed

it is the home of the universal savant

whose wisdom lies in

one word

magnificently powerful

in its singularity

it is the very portal between

galaxies and dimensions

the name of eternity

which can not be transcribed

To receive love, you have to give it...

Douglas,

as always, your struggle to give voice to silence, is admirable and well wrought. Have you read the non-dual theorists? I have been particularly impressed with Genpo Roshi's Big Mind Work...

I think, you will be impressed...

Enjoyable as always!

Many Thanks Douglas!

How wonderful stanza. Doug, the poem is very nice. The poem abounds in originality and deepness.

Also in your poem are some bridges between expression some quite sound as connection:

where water floats

and secrets are revealed

I love the ending part:

it is the very portal between

galaxies and dimensions

the name of eternity

which can not be transcribed

The last two lines hits.

Wonderful Douglas. Very well expressed poem.

Killer !!

This is the type of poem that needs to be recited on a cd.

This type of material awakens me.....and makes me consider the wonders of life .

gravity... infinity ...

completely... simultaneously ... magnificently... singularity ... eternity

the repeating "ee" here is really cool (how is this called? is it technically rhyme? its not alliteration, is it? I forget)- seems to my ear well spaced and well placed ...

this is the sort of poem-stuff that I consider my home ground... the things that are being pointed to here- the edges of philosophy - and this poem travels these edges smoothly and deftly- its been here before, and it knows the way... but as a poem, the feel and sound and the beat of it is terrific!

Love this work...

pawn shop - thank you for your enthusiasm about this poem. i am so happy that it made you consider the wonders of life. i try to consider and grasp them all the time myself, and, whenever i feel awed or overwhelmed by existence i try to express what i am seeing or feeling about it through poetry.

i do readings and performances of my poetry, and i shall certainly read this aloud to an audience in the future - and think of your kind words as i do.

thank you, douglas

dearest rumisong (rumi is one of my favorite poets by the way) thank you for your observations and interest in this poem.

you are indeed correct in observing the slightly philosophical edge to this poem. lately i can't seem to write a poem that does not touch upon philosophical or existential subject matter - however i do try to allow the poetry i write to flow out of me as organically and naturally as possible - without intellectualizing the subject matter too much.

i see how you have picked up upon the words that have a similar resonance. this was not a conscious effort on my part, but rather a product of inspiration. i agree that the words do uphold the rhythm and create a nice pace when read. i guess you could call it rhyme - to answer your question.

thank you for loving this piece of work. douglas
