Eggs

Eggs

The white dove flew
from our plimsolled feet,
leaving two perfect
white ovals behind,
twigged in the ancient ivy.

The white dove watched
as our curious hands
lifted her embryos up
to the sun, looking for
shadows beyond innocence.

There was one.
The white dove watched
as our footsteps went
on, leaving the young
to the decisions of time.

I do appreciate @dr_con's careful read -- thank you, Juris, for the Cliff Notes! -- without which, due to my own inept reading, I might have missed how well-written this is. It is pleasing, compact and profound.

I enjoyed this poem, the imagery, the progression.  I did read the comments which affirmed my understanding. The poem is controlled and well crafted.
I loved:
"leaving the young to the decisions of time."
