The elements of the Runnhent, a Skaldic meter, are:

  1. accentual, there must be 2 stressed syllables and at least 2 unstressed syllables however, since feminine rhyme is commonly found in this form, there are often 2 stressed syllables and 3 unstressed syllables.
  2. written in couplets, any number of couplets may be written.
  3. rhymed, rhyme scheme aa bb cc etc., often employing feminine rhyme.
