Lucky Charm

Cliché it is to say I've lived a charmed life
It's two times I've gone under the knife
discarding threatening flesh
the kind that won't mesh
with good health
Yes!
what a wealth
of chances, I'm blessed,
taking on my days refreshed
knowing that no one lives without strife
Cliché it is to say I've lived a charmed life

Sorry to hear this Terry.   I almost feel embarrassed to be put in the same category as you.  My cancer has been 17 years apart and I really have had it easy both times.  I just got the news last week I don't need chemo... Thank you Lord. I really have lived a charmed life.   I begin radiation in a couple of weeks.  We do what we have to do to keep going.

Unexpected complexity after the cereal box title invoking something like, "Alwees ahfter me lucky charlms!"  By calling out the bromide brings a note of irony and defiance of norms in the face of adversity, a joyful hands-on-hips declaration of gratitude.  The playful symmetry of the form reinforces the theme (not sure I recognize it), showing once again how poetic form can and should be part of how the poem means.

Hope everything is well with you, Tink!
