Mr Jones from Wales

He'd poke his head
inside the office door
on his daily walk.
The gravel in his voice
had a kind of crack and a squeak,
the sound of an ancient.
When he spoke
his words carried a lilt
and a brogue.
Widowed and alone,
with a twinkle and a smile
he'd offer a "good morning"
and sometimes a song.
Then he'd tap his cane
and move along.

oooo oooo oooo. Love that image a little Popinesque (as in Mary) yet a delightful clear portrait.

thegateless.org Come on over and check out my poetry substack y'all;-) Or if your bored, head to the Zazzle store: https://www.zazzle.com/store/gateless. If you buy anything I lose a bet, so consider that before you violate the digital rules.

A true memory from 40 years ago.  I have written of him before.  Mr Jones would truly sometimes sing to me.  He was in his 90s when I met him.  He also tried to teach me to speak in Welch.    I sure would love to encounter a Mr Jones popping his head in to say good morning right now.   Well I guess now it is my turn to be Mr Jones... to try and brighten someone else's day.
