Terry A Posted August 16, 2024 Posted August 16, 2024 I felt the old cave bear awaken and follow the water cool Rushing between walls of stone and stony faces grimacing warning and standing over ferns lush and growing. 1 Quote
badger11 Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 Like the use of 'felt'. Gave an energy to the resilience. Quote
Terry A Posted August 17, 2024 Author Posted August 17, 2024 The poem is inadequate even as a pocket poem, but the rest (I wrote) seemed too vacuous to include, and so chop/chop. Some places have power, this is one of them. Quote
badger11 Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 I think you are being harsh on yourself Terry. One of my favourite bear poems: https://allpoetry.com/poem/8503345-To-The-Reader-by-Denise-Levertov Quote
Terry A Posted August 19, 2024 Author Posted August 19, 2024 Thank you for the link, I have been enjoying the poetry. Here’s bear story for you. Early in the spring I looked out the window and saw a mother bear and her cub walking through the yard. I went out on the step and shouted. Well…..the cub run straight up a large spruce tree at the edge of the yard, and mama bear ran off into the forest. I waited, hoping the little one would come down, but it did not. After about 20 minutes of quiet, mama bear come out from behind a building and walked completely around it. She did this to every out-building within sight, circling, circling. If one had been foolish enough to be outside, chances were very good, she would have come up behind them. After about an hour of such checking, only then did she go to the tree the cub was in and coax it down. I love bears, fear them and totally respect them. 1 Quote
