Situation Normal ...

Situation Normal, A F U

Lately so many little things

conspire, they quench desire: no,

this fierce and drunken loneliness

cannot go on. Native fire

is no longer dependable. I watch

the way you talk, follow the way you walk

and see it all for the first time:

I know I know you

but I don’t know you

any more, I see familiar things as though

from a distance. At first you laughed

but then you stopped laughing, got angry,

and for that there is no blame. There is shame,

perhaps; it slouches around, shame is always somewhere,

and today it visits me. I can see

how words and looks become awkward. Such

a teddibly British way to go about things,

but that is how it’s done. Brief Encounters

are hesitant, tentative, writhingly difficult.

We need a wild operatic horrible war

every twenty-five years or so, so that,

at the cost of a few million innocent dead

lovers may come together.

Drown your sorrows in drink, by all means, but the real sorrows can swim

A passionate, lyrical work filled to the brim and overflowing with longing -- it's very much to my taste. I like how the title ties in with the military/war aspect mentioned in the last part of the poem.

I wish I wrote this one. Would it be okay if I read it for the Audio Weekend topic?

oddly written......

sorrow......mixed with a snide remark here and there....

love.....mixed with disappoinment and anger.....

wisdom...mixed with lack of understanding and pressure.....

an odd poem, indeed icon_cool.gif

Another remarkable example of voice, it describes and tastes the whole world making the world its own- The emotions are 'real,' the external events 'real' and what they describe, although not on the page is real- the revolving definitions of self that believes in an outside but always from the interior;-)

Excellent!
