Explore the Craft of Writing Poetry

Lethrannaegecht Morb, oglachas, a casual structure from the ancient Irish Verse Forms is:

  • written in any number of quatrains,
  • syllabic, each line has 5 syllables.
  • rhymed xaxa xbxb etc x being unrhymed
  • written with L1 and L2 linked by assonance,
  • composed with the end rhyme of L3 rhymes internally with L4
  • or L1 and L3 consonate with the end rhyme of L2 and L4
  • written with the defining features of most Celtic poems, cywddydd (harmony of sound) and dunadh (beginning and ending the poem with the same word, phrase or line.)
