Sport of Kings #26 Poem a Day

1 post in this topic

Sport of Kings

One snappish morning, late

in spring he arrives

just before the early birds sing.

An eager foal is born

to the land, all knees and hocks,

struggling to stand.

In time his legs will do

the deed and pound

with power, poise and speed

with fluid motion

and stunning grace

to claim the day and win the race.

His strong neck leads

with flash of mane

while sleek sinew stretches long

to plow the turf below his hooves.

Esteemed by man; the choice of kings

since time began.
