softly you whisper to me

new poem

softly you whisper to me

here in the dark

saying i love

but the words don't hold true

i wish there was more to this relationship

as you head out the door.

silently you say good bye

closing the door behind you

will i ever see you again.

in my wildest dreams

i pray for you

to come back through the door

you so quietly closed many years ago.

casually you come back

after all those years.

i am but an old man now

but can't you see

the bloodstains from my heart.

you left me with a goodbye letter.

how i covered it with my many tears.

i do not believe your apology is good enough.

so here we are back together again.

how this once empty bed still fills

so cold.

we fall asleep in one anothers arms,

i guess that is the best we can hope for.

Wonderful written my dear Victor. Again emotional and sensitive poem by you. I loved. You expressed your feelings and your hope so well , on one so touching way. Sadness in this peace hits and provokes longing, and melancholy.

Thank you so much for sharing this poem

Ah Victor my dear friend. I know, I recognized. To hope is good, but sometimes we are hurting us. Just stay fine. And keep your writing. I love to read your poetry.

Victor, I like how this poem seems to toggle back and forth between past and present. The result of the technique is that the yearning becomes amplified as it is contrasted with reality.

Hi Victor,

Its' wonderful to see you writing again. In the sadness and poignancy you evoke in this poem, one is reminded of Shelley's words: "Our sweetest songs are those that tell of saddest thoughts"

This encapsulates the pain, sadness, hopes of reconciliation and a deep longing, all of which combine into a potent mix:
